Meet Marie

Welcome, and thank you for stopping by. My name is Marie S. Goulart, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I arrive at the intersection of compassion and collaboration as I respectfully guide my clients to explore new levels of awareness, self-empowerment, flow, and understanding. Working towards cognitive flexibility, wholeness, and healing. I offer an authentic presence, that lends to curiosity and dabbles with humor, and am committed to creating a safe, welcoming space where my clients can learn, grow, stretch, and restore.

what is the Calling for your Healing ?

"Is this it?" "Enough is enough." "I can't live like this."  How long do we sit with discontent before we yield a pause and reach for support? And, when we say "heal," or "healing," what do we mean? Is it to feel balanced in life, or restored in a relationship? Is it to accept what is, or what isn’t? Perhaps, healing means that this is the first time you’re meeting the most authentic version of yourself or finding solace as you or your loved one transitions into the final stages of life.

I find that people seek psychotherapy for a range of reasons in everyday life.  It is with my observation and understanding that what calls us to a place such as "therapy" is the setbacks in relationships (even the relationship with ourselves), the depths of loss and unsettling moments, the fade of inspiration, motivation and desire, the innocence that is erased from time and hardship, all while searching for a more connected and meaningful life.

The calling of responsibilities and demands in everyday life do not falter.  They magnify, weighing heavy for progress, leading to feelings of fatigue, frustration, and guilt.  The pendulum swings, and the need for balance may seem far from reach.

Yet, it is when we navigate through life transitions that stress approaches, and sometimes ruminating thoughts seep in as part of the process. Before you know it, anxiety and depression may stop by and grow into what is now uncomfortable, perhaps limiting. When sitting with this discomfort for long enough, it is apparent that these thoughts, feelings, and sensations are getting harder and harder to manage alone.

Grief swells above and below the surface.  It shows up when you least expect it, and similarly to trauma, grief can show up days, months, and years later when our psyche is activated by a smell, sound, interaction, even a picture, simply reminding us of the loss that once was. Finding time to grieve the loss of an experience, an expectation, the passing of a loved one (human or not), the loss of a relationship, or job, can feel burdensome and then again, necessary to move more fluidly into the next phase of life.

If any of this resonates with you, I encourage you to continue to explore my site. I enjoy working with teens and adults of any age who find themselves at a place of ebb or flow. Depending on your particular need, therapy can be brief or long-term.  How often we meet will be individualized and based on your needs. Whether the leading call to therapy was from an immediate circumstance or from the buildup of courage and timing, I welcome connecting with you, and whatever is weighing on your heart.

What is your calling for healing?  -m
